Swallows of America

The Swallows of America, my chapbook published by my favorite independent, Dancing Girl Press is now out and available for purchase. Thank you to Alice Notley and Anne Waldman, two poet goddesses of the highest order for their kind words:

Alice Notley on The Swallows of America:

In the real world
there are poems and
you can rest in
them for moments
of no known dur-
ation. Thank you,
Maria Garcia Teutsch,
for writing these
crystal-pure poems
about difficult subjects

“Maria Garcia Teutsch’s poems are understated protests that pack a wallop.
Child separated at the border pulled away from mother “like meat from a bone”; “America/your face is razor-/wired”. Blessings on the poet-citizens who hear the sobs “no one hears”. The Swallows of America is a reminder for all of us to take heed to vocalize atrocity and act on convictions that wrench the heart. Poetry is an emanation of the heart.” –Anne Waldman

from THE SWALLOWS OF AMERICA:

America’s Over

America,
my love is green pennies
resting at the bottom of your throat.
The same well I once used for wishing.

I chant an earthquake–
I chant of shifting plates–
but rulers sleep in Richter stillness.
